Pasta Chips Recipe

Pasta Chips Recipe (Very Detailed Version)

Pasta chips are a crunchy snack made by cooking pasta, seasoning it, and then baking or air-frying it until crispy. They can be eaten on their own or served with dips such as marinara sauce, cheese sauce, garlic yogurt dip, or ranch dressing.

Ingredients

For the Pasta

  • 500 grams pasta (farfalle, penne, rigatoni, or any short pasta)
  • 3 liters water
  • 1 tablespoon salt

For Seasoning

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 50 grams grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

For Serving

  • Marinara sauce
  • Cheese dip
  • Garlic yogurt dip
  • Ranch dressing
  • Ketchup or chili sauce

Preparation Time

  • Preparation: 15 minutes
  • Cooking pasta: 10–12 minutes
  • Baking or air-frying: 15–25 minutes
  • Total time: Approximately 40–50 minutes

Step 1: Prepare the Water

Take a large cooking pot and pour in about 3 liters of water. Place the pot on medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil. Once the water is boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt. The salt helps season the pasta from the inside and improves its overall flavor.

Step 2: Cook the Pasta

Add the pasta to the boiling water. Stir immediately to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Cook according to the package instructions until the pasta reaches an al dente texture. Al dente means the pasta is cooked but still slightly firm when bitten.

For most pasta varieties, this takes around 8 to 12 minutes. Stir occasionally during cooking to ensure even cooking.

Step 3: Drain the Pasta

Once the pasta is cooked, remove the pot from the heat. Carefully pour the pasta into a colander to drain the water. Shake gently to remove excess water.

Allow the pasta to sit for 2 to 3 minutes so that extra moisture can evaporate. Dry pasta will become crispier during baking or air-frying.

Step 4: Prepare the Seasoning Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine:

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Dried oregano
  • Dried basil
  • Black pepper
  • Chili flakes
  • Salt

Mix thoroughly until the spices are evenly distributed throughout the oil.

If using Parmesan cheese, keep it aside for later or mix part of it into the seasoning mixture.

Step 5: Coat the Pasta

Transfer the drained pasta into the bowl containing the seasoning mixture.

Using a large spoon or spatula, gently toss the pasta until every piece is evenly coated with oil and spices. Continue tossing for several minutes to ensure complete coverage.

If using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it over the pasta and toss again.

Step 6: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Line a large baking tray with parchment paper or lightly grease it with oil. This prevents sticking and helps achieve even browning.

Step 7: Arrange the Pasta

Spread the seasoned pasta across the baking tray in a single layer.

Avoid overcrowding. Leave small spaces between pieces so that hot air can circulate around them. Proper spacing is important for maximum crispiness.

Step 8: Bake the Pasta Chips

Place the tray in the preheated oven.

Bake for 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the type and size of pasta used.

Halfway through the baking time, remove the tray and flip or stir the pasta. This ensures even browning and crispness on all sides.

Continue baking until the pasta becomes golden brown and crunchy.

Alternative Air Fryer Method

If using an air fryer:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Place the seasoned pasta in the basket in a single layer.
  3. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Shake the basket every 4 to 5 minutes.
  5. Continue cooking until the pasta is golden and crispy.

The air fryer method usually produces extra crunchy pasta chips.

Step 9: Cool the Pasta Chips

Remove the pasta chips from the oven or air fryer.

Allow them to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. During cooling, they become even crispier as the remaining moisture escapes.

Do not cover them while cooling, as trapped steam can soften the chips.

Step 10: Prepare a Simple Garlic Yogurt Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Method

Mix all ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Chill for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 11: Serve

Transfer the cooled pasta chips to a serving bowl. Serve immediately with your favorite dip.

These crispy pasta chips are perfect for parties, movie nights, afternoon snacks, lunch boxes, or as a crunchy side dish.

Storage

Store leftover pasta chips in an airtight container at room temperature.

They can remain crispy for up to 2 days. If they soften, reheat them in an oven at 180°C (350°F) for 3 to 5 minutes to restore crispiness.

Tips for the Best Pasta Chips

  1. Use short pasta shapes because they crisp more evenly.
  2. Do not overcook the pasta before baking.
  3. Dry the pasta well after draining.
  4. Use enough oil to coat every piece.
  5. Spread the pasta in a single layer.
  6. Turn the pasta during cooking.
  7. Allow the chips to cool completely before storing.
  8. Parmesan cheese adds extra flavor and crunch.
  9. Air frying usually produces the crispiest results.
  10. Experiment with different seasonings such as barbecue, taco seasoning, Cajun spice, lemon pepper, or Italian herbs.

The result is a flavorful, golden-brown, crunchy snack with a satisfying texture and endless seasoning possibilities
